We recently added basic felting kits to our Etsy shop for use with our big stitch yarn and our Sugarbush Chill yarn lineups, and boy, have the questions been rolling in.
Never fear, we hear you and we are totally here to help!
So let's answer the most important questions: Why would you use a felting kit, and why wouldn't you just weave in your ends?
Pure merino wool is precious and expensive. Whether you are working with extreme big stitch yarn or "regular" yarn, you don't want to waste any, no doubt about it! When you felt your ends for joining and finishing, you minimize waste. Instead of needing to leave many inches at the beginning and end of your work and at all joins for knotting and weaving, you can quickly and easily felt your ends with just an inch or so of yarn. When you invest in a top quality yarn, you want your finished product to look beautiful, even after use. Weaving ends is a tried-and-true technique, and I am not knocking it in any way, but the bigger your yarn gets, the more likely you are to find yourself with ends that refuse to stay weaved in.
We have created several felting tutorial videos to help you as you figure out the process. We promise, it is easy and you can totally do it! Now go finish your luxury handmade item beautifully and have fun!
